MANTRA MEDITATION IS A WELL KNOWN ART IF DONE WITH DEDICATION IT LIGHTENS OUR HEART
The word meditation is very commonly heard and is the "buzz" word in today's day and age. Everyone is talking about it whether at an individual level or at an organized level. It is frequently thrown around in many contexts including but not limited to mental and physical health and well-being.
We all agree that feeling good is a basic requirement. And health and well-being is at the crux of our existence. But often we find that we have no say in this matter. We become victims of "ill-state" or "dis-ease" and are given no choice. What if we had a choice? What if we could pick and choose to feel good? What if we could facilitate our healing process? What if we could make right decisions for ourselves, follow it and stay healthy. Well, the process of meditation offers that potential.
One would say, if doing something simple on a regular basis will help us achieve that potential within reasonable means, why not? Agreed, but several questions come up.
Meditation is not a new process but has been around for thousands of years and has its' roots in the Vedic system. Vedic system is an ancient civilization in existence for several thousand years and is also well described in a collection of texts referred to as "Vedas". Vedas in the modern era can be dated to at least 5,000 years back. The art of meditation is succinctly described here. We are all familiar with the word, "yoga", which is also closely linked to the process of meditation and has its roots in this system.
Meditation, in simple terms, is an alignment of body, mind, and the life force within us and charging this aligned unit with the universal energy. This charging process is akin to charging our cell phone or any electronic gadget for optimal functioning
Generally speaking, we know that there are several ways to do anything. In the similar way, there may be several different ways to do this. One of the processes of meditation well described in the ancient Vedic literature is called Mantra Meditation (MM).
Mantras are phrases, much like power bank or batteries, full of charge that can be tapped into.
There are unlimited number of mantras described in Vedic text. Some examples of mantras that we have listed here are:
1. Shree Ram Jai Ram Jai Sita Ram
2. Shree Krishna Sharanam Mama
3. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare; Hare Rama Hara Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare
4. Om Hari Om
They all have different meanings but the essence is tuning ourselves to the energy inside and around us akin to tuning a musical instrument to allow it to function well and emit melodies.
The universal energy is referred to by different names in different cultures and background. Example: Sun in French is Soleil, in Spanish is Sol, in Sanskrit is Surya - all mean the same entity. This "nonsectarian" process has been accepted and promoted by people of different faiths. It is akin to the practice of yoga where anyone and everyone with any background can derive benefit from it.
It is simple! Just by hearing the phrase attentively, focusing on it and repeating it! Anytime, anywhere, and of course anyone.
We have practiced this form of meditation for over 15 years and derived immense benefit. We will present sound tracks of these mantras here in different formats. Feel free to hear them, repeat them and see if it works for you. Just like any other practice, maximum benefit can be derived from it if performed regularly. To start with, it can be listened to anytime of the day or night and any length of time. However, if you want to practice it sincerely and seriously, set a fixed time and duration and get disciplined about it and enjoy the benefits.
During unprecedented COVID times, this therapy and discussion becomes even more important.
